Many family restaurants are open from around 8 or 9am til 4am and some are even open 24 hours. The café chains are open from around 7am and many places are open 7 days a week. Privately owned restaurants are usually open for lunch between the hours of 11am to 2pm, 6pm to 10pm for dinner. Business hours for cafés depend on the shop, some are open from 9am to 8pm, some open from 11am, some may only open for lunch. Check with the restaurant for closed dates as some have regular and others have irregular days off. Izakaya and Ramen shops are usually open til late, many even serve meals after midnight.
Compared to dining, business hours for shopping require a little more attention. Most fashion stores open just before lunch and close by 9pm. Stores that specialise in electronics, supermarkets and pharmacies also have similar business hours. The business hours for department stored depend on the floor but most close by 8pm. Convenient stores in the city centre are usually open 24 hours. The convenience store sell snacks, alcohol and basic items you may suddenly need at night.
Most banks are open on week days from 9am to 3pm, some have extended hours til 5pm. Weekends and public holidays are usually closed. ATMs are usually available from 8am to 11pm Mon to Sat, 8am to 9pm on Sun. Foreign exchange corners usually close by 3pm and are only available on weekdays.
Many entertainment facilities are open til midnight. Karaoke are usually open from 11am to 4am, bowling from 10am to 6am. Game Centres usually close by 11pm. Most movie theatres (cinemas) are open from 8am to 11pm, some are open 24 hours.
