Eastern Izu Travel Guide

Eastern Izu is an area which occupies the eastern part of the Izu Peninsula in Shizuoka prefecture.  It includes the cities of Atami, Ito, and Shimoda.

Atami Onsen and Ito Hot Springs in Eastern Izu can easily be reached from Tokyo so these hot spring resorts are crowded with company trips and other visitors from the city. In summer, beaches such as Atami Sun Beach and Nagahama Beach are popular. Besides that, you can enjoy natural beauty such as the thrilling standing cliff views at Jogasaki coast and the lovely scenery in all four seasons at Mt. Omuro.

You can get around this region by car and train.  From major cities, you can take the bullet or conventional train to Atami Station.  If you take the bullet train from Tokyo, you can get there within 1 hour.  It’s about 1 hour and 40 minutes by limited express.
