Ogama Spring: essential to the life of residents

Ogama Spring is located in Nozawa Hot Spring, the water temperature reaches 100 degrees.  

Ogama Spring was indispensable of the locals, its waters were used for boiling and peeling hemp. Nowadays, they don’t peel hemp; instead, people use the water to boil eggs and vegetables. Ogama Spring has 5 reservoirs used for boiling different products.

You can’t approach the spring since the water temperature is too high but you can feel the atmosphere well. Eggs, boiled at this hot spring are also sold here. Boiling activity is fun, so try it if you have a chance.

Access

Car: Toyota-Iiyama IC on Joshinetsu Expressway, 25 minutes on state highway 117.

Train: Nagano Station on Shinkansen Line or conventional lines, change to JR Iiama line, get off at Togari Nozawa Onsen Station. From there, ride a bus for 20 minutes. There is only one bus, running every 1 or 2 hours. There is also a direct bus from Nagano Station, it takes 1 hour 20 minutes.
