Kofu Travel Guide

Kofu is an area located in the northeastern part of Yamanashi prefecture.  It includes the cities of Kofu, Yamanashi, Chuo, Koshu, Fuefuki, Otsuki, and Uenohara.

Kofu is a region that is known for its production of fruit such as grapes, pears, and peaches. There are places to enjoy these fruits throughout the year such as Fuefukigawa Fruit Park, as well as spots where you can experience fruit picking during the season like Satomi Fruits Farm, Katsunuma Grapark, and Shimamura Farm. If you go to Kofu, you really must taste the fresh fruit. In addition, because of all the grape production, it also has a thriving wine making industry. Chateau Mercian Winery and Manns Wine Katsunuma Winery are recommended for wine lovers.

In addition, there are places where you can enjoy the rich natural scenery of Yamanashi such as Mitake Shosen Gorge and Maizuru Castle Park.

It is convenient to have a car for getting around this area.  You can get here from major cities by conventional railway or express bus.  From Tokyo to Kofu Station, it takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes on the JR Chuo Main line from Shinjuku Station.  You can also take an express bus from Shinjuku Station and get there in about 2 hours and 10 minutes.
