Ono/ Katsuyama is a region located in the eastern part of Fukui prefecture. It includes the cities of Ono and Katsuyama.
For sightseeing, there are Echizen Ono Castle, popular as a castle floating in the clouds, Teramachi Street, which was developed as a castle town from 1573 to 1592, and the powerful, 17 meter high Echizen Great Buddha of Seidai-ji Temple. In addition, Fukui prefecture has been dedication to the excavation of dinosaur fossils, and so far, many fossils have been discovered. Located in the city of Katsuyama, the Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum is the nation's leading geological and paleontological museum and is a place where adults and children can enjoy learning.
You can get around this area by train but it is convenient to have a car for sightseeing trips. From major cities, you can get to Echizen Ono Station, one of the areas nearest stations, by plane or train. From Tokyo’s Haneda Airport, you can fly to Komatsu Airport, take an express bus to Fukui Station, and take the JR Echimi Hoku line for Echizen Ono Station. It takes about 3 hours and 15 minutes.
