Shizuoka Travel Guide

Shizuoka is an area including Shizuoka City, Shimada City, Fujinomiya City, Kawane Honmachi etc. in the central part of Shizuoka Prefecture. The most prominent sightseeing spot in the area is Japan’s representative Mount Fuji. It is also known as a famous location for green tea, sakura shrimp, and fresh seafood.

As for sightseeing locations, we recommend the Miho Pine Grove “Miho-no-Matsubara” where you can gaze at beautiful Mount Fuji from a beach, the Tokugawa gravesite Kuno-zan Tosho-gu Shrine, and Sumata-kyo where you can see natural scenery such as spring leaves and fall foliage. For art enthusiasts, you can also visit the Shizuoka City Serizawa Keisuke Art Museum where works by the dye craftsman Serizawa Keisuke are displayed, or Chibi Maruko Chan Land which was created to honor the Shizuoka-born manga artist Sakura Momoko.

For traveling through the area we recommend the JR Tokaido Main Line, Minobu Line, and Oigawa Railway’s Oigawa Line. You can travel by bus to reach tourist spots that are distant from the train station. From each region of Japan you can use the Shinkansen to reach Shizuoka. From Tokyo Station, you can use the Tokaido Shinkansen or the Sanyo Shinkansen to reach Shizuoka Station. The total travel time is about 1 hour and 30 minutes, and you can easily access Shizuoka even from the heart of Tokyo.
