This brewery was established in 1787 and is located in Iwamura-cho, Ena, Gifu Prefecture. Its most famous brand is “Onna Joshu”. They use locally produced rice and the water they use for filtering is among the Best 50 waters of Gifu Prefecture.
The building of the brewery is listed as an Important Preservation District. It perfectly preserves the atmosphere of Iwamura castle town. The brewery can be visited for free, time required is 20 min. A part of the building has a history of 300 years, and you can see a 100 m truck road used for transporting rice and sake. You can drink the water used for filtering sake at the inner garden. You can of course try sake here or near the counter. Opening of the warehouse after New Year is conducted every Sunday in February and festive days. A sake tasting is also held. A lot of people gather to try freshly squeezed sake.
Train: At JR Ena Station change to the Akechi Railway and get off at Iwamura Station, 15 minutes from there. Car: 20 minutes from Ena IC on the Chuo Expressway. People who want to take part in sake tasting should visit by public transportation.
