Yao/ Tonami is a region located in western Toyama prefecture. It includes the cities of Tonami and Oyabe.
For sightseeing, there are the main streets of Suwamachi Street where old-fashioned Traditional Townscape of Yao and castle walls remain, and the Yao Owara Museum which introduces Yao’s traditional festival, "Owara Kaze no Bon." Another popular spot for visitors to Toyama is the tulip-themed botanical garden TONAMI TULIP GALLERY, which boasts the largest shipment of tulips in Japan.
It is convenient to have a car for getting around this area. Traditional Townscape of Yao ape is a 10 minute ride bus from EtchuYao Station on the JR Takayama Main line. Hikiyama Tenji Joemae is the nearest bus stop. From Tokyo Station to Yao Station, it takes about 3 hours by Hokuriku bullet train or conventional railway.
