Fukuyama Travel Guide

Fukuyama is an area located in the eastern part of Hiroshima prefecture It includes the cities of Shobara, Fuchu, and Fukuyama.

Tomonoura Bay, a port city in Fukuyama located at the point where the tides of the Seto Inland Sea collide, has flourished as a fishing port for a long time.  You can enjoy walking through the remaining old streets.  In addition, there are plenty of spots where you can experience history, such as Fukuyama Castle which was completed in the Edo period (1603-1868), and Io-ji Temple, which is said to have been built in the Heian period (794 - 1185).

It is convenient to have a car for getting around this area.  From major cities, take the bullet train, or you can fly through Hiroshima Airport and take the Limousine Bus.  By bullet train from Tokyo, it takes about 3 hours and 40 minutes to get to Fukuyama station.  If flying through Hiroshima Airport, it takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes.
