Odori Park is situated right in the center of Sapporo with beautiful flower beds and lawns as well as various trees. It hosts the Lilac festival, YOSAKOI Soran festival and Snow festival, which are popular as events among both citizens and tourists. In size it's about 1.5km long with about 7.8 hectares total surface area. It was developed by Nagaoka Yasuhei and carries 100 years of history.
The park itself is divided into 5 parts, "Flowers", "Meetings", "Frontier", "Oasis", and "Exchange". Within the park there's a 147.2m TV tower, a symbol of Sapporo, and once you enter Odori Park you can see the whole of the center of Sapporo. There is also a fountain square park, sculptures, and an outdoor stage. There is a rose garden that is free to view, and there is a historical museum chronicling the history of Sapporo.
How to enjoy the park
The park has a snow festival in winter with hundreds of thousands of lights from December through early January every year, and the colors are very festive from Christmas to New Years. From spring to autumn there are wagons selling corn and there's also a beer garden.
You can also see the various plants throughout the year; the cherry blossoms bloom in early May which attracts visitors from all over Japan.
There is an information center (open from 10:00 to 16:00) which has resident staff ready to help tourists. For foreign tourists there is English, Chinese, and Korean correspondence done by telephone interpreters. The information center also sells goods and authentic Sapporo-style goods from Odori Park, so you can get t-shirts, tote bags, mobile phone straps, and handmade items.
Tozai Line Subway, Namboku Subway, Toho Subway, all you have to do is get off at Odori Station (大通駅) and you are there. You can take a bus or walk from JR Sapporo Station (札幌駅) (about 15 min). There is underground parking for about 366 cars which is directly connected to the underground shopping center.
