There are many sightseeing spots that make use of the environment such as the nature-rich Akashi Kaikyo National Government Park, Hyogo Prefectural Awajishima Park, Kiseki-no-Hoshi Botanical Museum, etc. Also, there are the Awaji Doll Joruri Theatre, where you can see the puppet plays continuing from the Edo period (1603-1868), and places related to Japanese mythology such as Izanagi Shrine, Nu Island, and Onokoro Shrine.
You can get around this area by car and bus. From major cities, you can take a ferry in addition to car and bus. If flying from Tokyo, go to Kobe Airport and from Kobe take a bus for Awaji Island. It takes about 4 hours.
