When you come to Hikone for sightseeing, you really cannot miss Hikone Castle. The fortification of Hikone Castle dates to 1622 and has been selected as a national treasure of Japan. In spring, there is a wonderful view of the approximately 1,200 cherry trees in full bloom and we can see the crowds of many cherry-blossom viewers.
You can get around this area by car and conventional train such as the Tokaido line. From major cities, it is easy to take bullet or conventional trains. From Tokyo to JR Hikone Station, you can take the bullet train to JR Maibara Station and from there take the Tokaido line bound for Kyoto. It takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes.
