Himeji・Akashi is the area which includes Himeji city and Akashi city in the western area of Hyogo Prefecture. The southern area faces the Seto Inland Sea.
Himeji Castle, which has been registered as a World Heritage Site is located in Himeji city. It was built during the Azuchi Momoyama period (1573-1603) and became the current figure during the Edo period (1603-1868). The building is said to have historical value. Within the castle grounds, there is a Japanese garden, Koko-en Garden, where nature of the four seasons can be enjoyed.
There is a fishing port in the Akashi area, and of its features is that visitors can taste fresh seafood. Uo-no-tana Shopping Arcade is a 350 meter arcade with over 100 shops selling seafood as well as eateries. There are stores which sell Akashi’s specialty, Akashi-yaki and is worth the try.
Himeji city and Akashi city are located adjacent to each other and JR Himeji Station and JR Akashi Station are only 30 minutes apart by train. Access from the airport is also convenient. There is a bus that runs directly from Kansai International Airport to Himeji Station.
