About Usukuchi Tatsuno Soy Sauce Museum

Usukuchi Tatsuno Soy Sauce Museum is the first museum of soy source in Japan. The museum is the building that was used as the headquarter of the seasoning company, Higashimaru Shoyu (soy source). The building is built of wood and bricks in the Renaissance style. The museum is designated as the first tangible cultural asset of Tatsuno City. The museum comprises the main building and the annex. The main building exhibits the process of making soy source from the Edo period to the days before WWⅡ, tools used for making soy source along with materials and documents about soy source. You can see the video about making soy source in old times and today. It takes only 30 minutes to look around the museum, and you can see the wisdom and the invention of people in producing soy source through exhibited tools that has been used since the Edo peiod. There is a shop in the museum. You can buy some different-flavoured soy sources along with confectionaries using soy source like soy source yokan.

Access

You can visit the Usukuchi Tatsuno Soy Sauce Museum by car or train. If you go by car, it takes five minutes from the Tatsuno Interchange of the Sanyo Expressway. The museum has a free parking lot. The closest railway station is Hontatsuno Station of the Kishin Line. It takes 20 minutes on foot from the station to the museum.
