In the area, there are important Shingon Buddhist temples like Kongobu-ji Temple, where Koyasan Shingon Buddhism began, and Danjo Garan, a sacred place in Shingon Buddhism. There is also Koyasan Okuno-in Temple, the temple on Koyasan where the monk Kukai began the first Shingon sect in Japan. You can use the Koyasan Cable to visit these spots.
It is convenient to have a car for getting around this area. The nearest airport is Kansai International Airport and from there, if you take the Nankai line, the Nankai Koya line, or the Koyasan Cable, it takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes. From Tokyo, you can also take the bullet train to Shin-Osaka Station and from there take the subway or Nankai Koyasan line.
