Namba Parks

At the heart of Osaka/Minami lies this commercial complex which is directly linked to the Nankai Electric Railway's Nankai Station. From the first floor to the 9th floor, you can find fashion, accessories, interior, cosmetics and other various shops, along with a plethora of restaurants and cafes. There's also a movie theater, so you can enjoy all kinds of activities from shopping to food to amusement.

This facility was built by the same designers who made Tokyo's Roppongi hills, on top of the original site of the Osaka Ballpark. The unusual landscape around the building resulting from rapids having created a deep valley is also home to the stylish 30-floor 150m office building, the Parks Tower. This building itself is very interesting and worth a visit.

As a city park area

There are other aspects of Namba Parks, closer to the "park" name. There are gardens on the terraces from the first floor to the 9th floor with a variety of flowers and trees. There are also seasonal birds and insects, creating a unique rest area for the city.

To make it as much a paradise within the city as possible, Namba Parks aims for harmony with the environment. They aim to insulate and prevent the heat island phenomenon and also conserve ecosystems, and of the about 11500m2 of land, just under half is green space. It has won awards both foreign and domestic, and in the 2012 version of Travel + Leisure magazine of the United States it was chosen as the most beautiful urban park in the world. While shopping you can catch some moments of relief you wouldn't expect in such an urban environment.

As it lies in the center of the region access varies on the railway line. The Nankai Electric Railway is directly connected to Namba Station. By subway, Midosuji (御堂筋線), Sennichi (千日前線) and Yotsubashi Lines (四つ橋線) have various Namba stations, ranging from 7-9 minutes' walk. The Namba Line (なんば線) and Kintestsu Namba Line (近鉄難波線) share a Namba Station and it's about a 9 minute walk from there, on the JR Kansai Main Line it's about 11 minutes' walk from JR Namba Station.
