Between the Dojima and Tosabori rivers lies Nakanoshima Park. With buildings lined up on both sides of the park, this is a place that exudes the atmosphere of the "city of water" Osaka. It has a long history as the first municipal park in Osaka, opened in 1891. The total length is 1.5km and the park area is 10.6 hectares, and within this area remain many retro buildings such as the Osaka Public Hall opened in 1918 and the Osaka Library (now Osaka Prefectural Nakanoshima Library).
The 3700-Rose Garden
In the Taisho Roman (a period of Japanese history around 1912-1926 where rapid cultural advancements were made) the Nakanoshima Rose Garden was made in the middle of the park. From east-west it is 500m and about a total area of 13000m2 in which 3700 roses of 310 species bloom in mid-May and Mid-October to create a beautiful and fragrant garden.
Facing the rose garden is the restaurant “Earl” Riverside Grill and Beer Garden. It is open-air but they are equipped for all types of weather so you can rest easy. If you come at the right time you can enjoy barbecue that will make you feel right at home in Osaka.
World-class oriental pottery museums
For those with an interest in oriental ceramics the Museum of Oriental Ceramics, Osaka, is a must-visit. It includes the world-famous "Ataka Collection", 2 national treasures, 13 pieces of important cultural property, and a total of 2700 objects. It's a world-class oriental pottery museum. It is normally open when the park is open, but on Mondays where a holiday follows as well as New Year's holidays it is closed. The general admission is 500 yen, and 300 yen for students.
From Yodoyabashi to Higobashi there is a 400m road in Nakanoshima with 10 sculptures set up. The Keihan Railway's Nakanoshima Line is also directly connected to the park via Naniwabashi station, and due to the architect Tadao Ando's hand in designing the area, you can enjoy the park from an artistic perspective as well.
By the Sakaisuji subway it's a 2-minute walk from Kitahama Station (北浜駅), Keihan-Nakanoshima Line's Nanibawashi Station (なにわ橋駅) and the Keihan Main Line's Kitahama Station. It's also a 5-minute walk from the subway Midosuji Line's Yodoyabashi Station. (淀屋橋駅)
