Kamigata Ukiyo-e are the ukiyo-e that were made mainly in Osaka from the late Edo Period (1603-1868) to the beginning of the Meiji Period (1868-1912). Most of them depict Kabuki actors from the Dotonbori Kabuki drama. There are a few of the "Bijin-ga" (Beautiful woman) or "Fukei-ga" (scenery), which is another popular ukiyo-e within the Edo Ukiyo-e. A special point about Kamigata Ukiyo-e is that it does not beautify the actors; instead, they are depicted with humanity. Foreigners know Kamigata Ukiyo-e as "OSAKA PRINTS". These pieces of art are collected and housed in museums around the world, including the British Museum.
