For sightseeing, there is Chikurin-in Temple, which was a lodging place for Yamabushi (or mountain ascetic) who practice Shugendo religion, and Kinpusen-ji Temple, the headquarters of the Kimpusenji Shugendo faith, where monks and test takers used to practice. This area is famous as a cherry blossom viewing spot and in spring, 30,000 cherry trees bloom on Mt.Yoshino, and you can see 1,000 cherry trees on the grounds of Yoshimizu-jinja Shrine.
You can get around this area by car or train. The closest station is Yoshinoyama Station on the Kintetsu Yoshino line. It takes between 1 hour and 15 minutes and 1 hour and 40 minutes by train from Osaka Station and Kyoto Station.
