21_21 DESIGN SIGHT is a gallery/museum located in Roppongi where many of the exhibitions have a ‘design’ theme. The venue also hosts public discussions and workshops. The lead director is journalist Noriko Kawakami. The other three directors include world-famous fashion designer Issey Miyake and nationally / internationally renowned product designers Taku Sato and Naoto Fukusawa.  

A Unique Building that Continues Underground

The layout of the 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT building was designed by world-famous architect, Tadao Ando. The majority of the building has been constructed beneath the ground, concealing a whole other world that is invisible from the outside entrance.  

Opening Hours and Admission Fees

Opening Hours are 10 : 00-19 : 00 every day, excluding Tuesdays. Entry is permitted up until 18 : 30.  The museum is closed during the New Year Holiday Period. Times are subject to change depending on exhibition changeover periods. Patrons can view all exhibits upon payment of an admission fee. General Admission: 1100 JPY. University Students: 800 JPY. High School Students: 500 JPY.  Entry is free for those aged 15 years (junior high school students) and under.


The closest station is Roppongi Station via the Toei Ōedo Line or via the Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line. It is also possible to access the venue from Nogizaka Station via the Tokyo Metro Chiyoda Line. The venue is a five minute walk from each station.
