What is the AKB48 Theater?
AKB48 is a popular idol group that was established in 2005. The main concept of the AKB48 Theater is "go and meet an idol", and they have concerts almost every day that are performed by different groups within AKB48. The theater’s capacity is 250 people. There are 145 seats and the rest is standing room only. The stage and the auditorium seats are extremely close; the front row is only about two meters away from the stage. This allows the audience to feel a connection with the idols on stage. There is also an "AKB48 SHOP" on the 5th floor of the same building that the AKB48 theatre is located in. AKB48’s CDs and other original items are sold there. AKB48's media exposure has grown ever since 2009, and they are currently very well known. Although AKB48 is mainly activate in Akihabara, they have sister groups such as SKE48 in Nagoya, NMB48 in Osaka, and HKT48 in Fukuoka. There are also sister groups abroad such as JKT48 in Jakarta and SNH48 in Shanghai.
A Few Words of Advice when Buying Tickets
250 tickets are sold for each concert held at the AKB48 Theater. However, there are many different categories of tickets offered such as those for members of the "AKB48 Mobile Club", the "AKB48 Official Fan Club Nihonbashira-no-kai", a family and couple category, a female category, an elementary to junior high school student category, a category for people that traveled from long distances, and the regular category. The time of purchase and target group of consumers differs depending on each category, so visitors must be aware of this. Even though there are many different categories and groups for buying tickets, please note that there is no need to register for an AKB48 group in order to buy a ticket.
For travelers from abroad, there is "Super Long Distance Category" which takes reservations by e-mail beginning a month before the performance. Those who win the ticket lottery will receive an e-mail. The payment shall be made in Japanese yen on the day of the performance at the theater. Please be aware that a passport will be needed when purchasing the ticket.
