An aquarium located in the Sky Tree Town
Sumida Aquarium is located on the 5th and 6th floors of the Tokyo Sky Tree Town Soramachi, its concept is "a cradle of water that nurtures life", and in the aquarium—the so called cradle, they breed jellyfish and small sea creatures as well as having a coral reef exhibit, etc. The "Tokyo Large Aquarium" is true to its name, starting on the 5th floor and penetrating to the 6th floor at a depth of 6m, themed around the sea of the Tokyo Islands and reproducing the Ogasawara Sea which is registered as a World National Heritage Site. Even in the city, you can see under the far-away Ogasawara Sea. In Japan's largest indoor open pool on the 5th floor you can also see up close penguins and seals swimming.Inside there are 3 labs where you can communicate with the breeding staff on site. In these labs you can see how the breeding facilities work and what the breeding staff does, so you can have an even deeper appreciation of what goes on at the aquarium. Starting at 18:30 there are changes to the aquarium lighting which goes into night mode, so you can watch the "Blue Night Aquarium" and see the sea creatures at night. You can also see penguins sleeping close to the rocks at night. The Blue Night Aquarium happens daily from 18:30 to 21:00, and depending on the season it may begin at 18:00.
By train, the Isesaki Tobu Railway's Tokyo Sky Tree Station (とうきょうスカイツリー駅) is the nearest station. By subway, the Toei Asakusa line's Oshiage (押上駅) Station is the closest. By bus, take the Toei bus to the Tokyo Sky Tree Station, and if you're coming by car, the Metropolitan Expressway No 6 Mukojima line's Komagata Exit (駒形出入口) is the closest interchange.
