Shinjuku Gyoen National Park

Shinjuku Gyoen is a park between Shinjuku Ward and Shibuya Ward. It occupies an area of 58.3 hectares. The shogun bequeathed this land to Lord Naitō of Tsuruga in the Edo period who completed a garden here in 1772. In 1906, it became a garden under the management of the Imperial Household Agency of Japan. Nowadays, it is familiar to many people. The garden blends three distinct styles: a French Formal and English Landscape in the north and to the south a Japanese traditional garden. The French garden has platan trees, whereas the English garden has tulips.

Enjoy seasonal landscapes

There are over 100,000 trees at Shinjuku Gyoen. There are a lot of trees you wouldn’t normally find in a Japanese garden: tulip tree, platan etc.

In spring, plum trees, white magnolias, cherry trees are in full bloom. In summer, hydrangea, gardenia, myrtle bloom among the lush greenery. In autumn, spider lilies, bush clover, olive trees, chrysanthemum show their flowers and in winter, winter camellias and cherry trees together with snow create a beautiful view.
