Tokyo Metropolitan Government Buildings

Tokyo Metropolitan Government Buildings are the headquarters of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. The complex consists of two office towers; City Hall and Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly. Even though one would think it is difficult to visit, given it is a government building, a part of the complex is actually a tourist facility.

The main point of interest is a free observation deck. There are Northern and Southern observation decks; you can get there by using the elevator at the first building, which takes you to a height of 202 meters. You can see Tokyo Sky Tree, Tokyo Tower, Shinjuku Park Tower and other skyscrapers from the observation deck. From December to February, when temperatures are low, you might be able to see Mt. Fuji. The observation deck is open from 9:30 to 23:00; you can visit it late in the evening, which makes it popular among couples. The Southern observation deck is closed every first and third Tuesday of the month, Northern observation deck is closed every second and fourth Monday of the month.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government's staff canteen can be used by visitors, which offers cheap and delicious food and beverages. Moreover, the visitors can buy some local products in the kiosk. The Tokyo Tourist Information Center offers a lot of tourist information with many posters and brochures.

Train: The nearest station is Tocho-mae Station. You can also use a shuttle bus from the West exit of Shinjuku Station or simply walk there, it takes approximately 10 minutes.

Car: Use Shinjuku Exit on line 4 of the Metropolitan Expressway. Building 1 and building 2 both have parking lots. It costs 150 yen for the first 1.5 hours, after that a 250-yen surcharge is applied every 30 minutes. You can use it from 8:30 to 21:30; Park Street exit is open from 8:00 to 22:00.
