Experience nature’s tranquility in Tokyo.
Kiyosumi Gardens is a circuit style garden located in Tokyo's Koto ward, so you can enjoy the Japanese style garden while you walk around the park. It's a well-known place of scenic beauty. The gorgeous park greets you with a completely different view from the groups of buildings in Tokyo you might imagine. At the entrance you can hear the shishi-odoshi (Water-filled bamboo tube which clacks against a stone when emptied), and right before you the beautiful spring waters spread out. Kiyosumi Gardens is close to both river and sea and so it is famous for wild birds from nearby locations. There are also arrangements of famous varieties of stone, such as Kishu coredierite, Bicchu granite, and Sado akadama. There’s also a monument of the celebrated Edo-era haiku poet Matsuo with his famous frog haiku, allowing you to savour the cultural history of Japan.
Cherry blossom viewings in spring, autumn leaf viewings in fall
When spring comes, cherry blossoms bloom freely in Kiyosumi Gardens. Among these are Kanhizakura cherries, whose downward facing blooms offer a slightly different variety of beauty for you to savour as you look at the cherries. The Kanhizakura cherries bloom somewhat earlier than other cherries, so you can enjoy watching them for a longer period of time than other cherries. These very cherries are also an attraction during the autumn viewing festival, where you can enjoy their delicately different deep-red leaves.
To get to Kiyosumi Gardens, take the Toei Oedo Line or Tokyo Metro Hanzomon and get off at Kiyosumi-Shirakawa Station. You can get there in 3 minutes of walking. If you happen to take a bus, you can use the Kiyosumi-Shirakawa-mae bus stop, which is right in front of it. This bus goes out of Kameido Station and Akihabara station.
