Comfortably enjoy the Suzumoto Entertainment Theater
The Suzumoto Entertainment Theater is located in Taito-ku, Tokyo, and has a rich variety of entertainment available such as impersonations, acrobatics, paper cutting, magic shows, storytellers, and more. The contents change every 10 days. There are special solo performances held on the 31st of the month as well.
It has been open since the Edo era and is the oldest vaudeville theaters remaining in Tokyo. Although it was originally tatami-floored it’s now a 5-story building with the 3rd and 4th floor occupied by audience seating. There are folding tables in the audience and you can enjoy a meal while you watch. There is special Inari sushi available for 700 yen. At the entrance the drum that is beaten to announce the start of a show is one of the most famous sounds in Ueno.
The performances are divided into matinee and night showings, at 12:00 open, 12:30 curtains, 16:30 finish, 17:00 open, 17:30 curtains, and 20:40 finish. It is closed from the 29-31st and may be closed from time to time outside of that. Advance tickets are not sold, but it is possible to make a reservation for up to 10 people on the day of a show. In special cases there may be advance reservations available.
By train, take the JR East line to Okachimachi Station (御徒町駅). By subway, take the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line to Ueno Hirokoji Station (上野広小路駅). By bus take the Taito circulation bus stop Eiju Sougou Byouin (永寿総合病院). To get there by car, take Capital Highway No. 1 Ueno Line to the Ueno Exit (上野出口). Paid parking in 4 different lots.
