Shin-Yokohama Ramen Museum

The Shin-Yokohama Ramen Museum is a ramen noodle-themed amusement park where famous ramen shops across Japan have been gathered. Streets in the good old days of the Showa era (1926-1989) are recreated inside of the museum. You can also learn about the history and bits of knowledge of ramen. There are nine ramen shops from Sapporo, Tokyo, Hakata, Kumamoto and other local areas, and each of them serves their own flavor of ramen such as soy sauce, miso, pork, and so forth. As each shop serves "mini-ramen," smaller than one serving, visitors can visit several shops to enjoy different flavors of ramen noodles. The museum also contains Showa-era style coffee shops and a dagashi-ya (old-fashioned candy and snack shop). In the past, picture-story shows were held in parks where many children had gathered to amuse them. Such old-time, picture-story shows are also held in the museum. "My Ramen Kitchen" is also another popular attraction, allowing you to create your one of a kind "my ramen." You can choose your favorite soup, a type of fresh noodles, sauce, oil and ingredients, and pack them into your original package with your picture, which is taken on the spot, and take your packaged ramen home.

In recent years, ramen and other food-themed amusement parks have been established across Japan, and the Shin-Yokohama Ramen Museum, which opened 20 years ago, pioneered this field. As ramen has become globally popular, the museum attracts many foreign visitors today. Since it is conveniently located, you should include it in your Yokohama sightseeing plan.

To get to the Shin-Yokohama Ramen Museum, it takes five minutes on foot from Shin-Yokohama station where a Shinkansen (a bullet train) also stops.
