All about Yokohama Anpanman Children Museum & Mall

Yokohama Anpanman Children Museum & Mall has a hands-on experience type museum area and a shopping mall area. There is no entry fees in the shopping mall area but the museum requires an entrance fee. Tickets for children under 12 come with a memento gift.

The museum has three stories. You can start walking through from the "Nakayoshi Town" on the third floor where many dioramas of Anpanman characters are placed. As some of the dioramas are hands-on type, you can touch or even go into them. In the "Fureai Town" on the second floor, you can play with Anpanman toys and see puppet shows. It also has a space for a crafts class and a gallery exhibiting Anpanman paintings.

The "Wanpaku Town" on the first floor has a space where you can go down slides and play with huge balls with Anpanman faces. Anpanman shows are held a few times a day at "Yanase Takshi Theater," which bears the name of the author of Anpanman.

The shopping mall contains stores that handle Anpanman-related products such as a bookstore selling Anpanman picture books, a store specialized in stuffed toys, and stores selling bread and snacks that are shaped like Anpanman and other characters in the Anpanman story. As the Anpanman story has characters in the motifs of breads, the mall's Uncle Jam's Bakery that sells the characters-shaped breads is so popular that it has a line of people waiting to enter the shop depending on the time.

The mall is recommended for kids ranging from babies and toddlers to children in the lower grades of elementary school. It is very crowded with children accompanied by adults on the weekends. Popular shops often have long lines of people.

The same facility is available in Sendai, Nagoya, Kobe and Fukuoka.

The nearest station is Shintakamashima station of the Minatomirai Line or Takashimacho station of the Yokohama Municipal Subway Blue Line. It takes seven minutes on foot to get there from either of the stations. You can take the above-mentioned trains from Yokohama station.
