Chikuzen-koku Ichinomiya Sumiyoshi-jinja Shrine

This is one of the Sumiyoshi Sanjin Shrines in Fukuoka. Sumiyoshi Sanjin means three gods of sea: Sokotsutsu no Okami, Nakatsutsu no Okami and Uwatsutsu no Okami. Sumiyoshi Sanjin shrines exist all over Japan. Chikuzen-koku Ichinomiya Sumiyoshi-jinja Shrine is the oldest among them. On the premises, there is Nogakuden built in 1938, considered Tangible Cultural Property of Fukuoka. Not only Nogaku music but also plays and concerts are performed at Nogakuden.

There are seasonal festivals held here: Onda-sai in spring, Nagoshi Tai-sai in summer, Reitai-sai in autumn, Tsuinasai in winter.
