What is Marine World - Uminonakamichi?

Marine World Uminonakamichi makes the warm ocean currents of Tsushima Strait its theme and houses 30,000 sea creatures of 450 species. The 3-layered aquarium has various attractions such as, a large panorama tank that houses over 20 types of shark including sand tiger sharks, a tunnel tank where tropical fish swim, a "Show Pool" where dolphins and sea lions perform, a glass-walled area called Uminaka CUBE where sea lions and seals can be viewed, sea otter pool, and sea turtle tank. Visitors can see and study ecology from various perspectives.

Various Experience Programs

Marine World Uminonakamichi provides a wide range of experience programs such as, "Paku Paku Azarashi" where visitors can feed seas lions and seals, "Backyard Tour" where visitors can go behind-the-scenes with aquarium staff, and a section where visitors can feed various sea creatures. The aquarium is a great place to visit for families with children. Some experience types have limits on the number of participants or age requirements, please check in advance.

From the Marine World Restaurant at the aquarium, visitors can enjoy a meal while watching dolphins swim. There are the Café Marine where light snacks and drinks can be enjoyed.

The hours of operation for the aquarium depend on the season. March 1 through July 18, and September 1 through November 30: 9:30AM to 5:30PM December 1 through end of February: 10:00AM to 5:00PM December 23, 24, 25: 10:00AM to 7:00PM


Marine World - Uminonakamichi can be accessed by train, bus, boat or car. By train: Get off at JR Uminonakamichi Station on the Kashii Line. By bus: Take the Nishitetsu Bus from the "Tenjin Yubinkyoku-mae" stop to the "Marine World Uminonakamichi" stop (40 minutes to 1 hour). By boat: 20 minute boat ride on the UMINAKA Line from "Momochi (Marizon)" or "Hakata (Bayside Place)" docks. By car: From the Kyushu Expressway "Dazifu IC" interchange, go through the Toshi Highway #2/#1 and exit at the "Kashiihama Ramp". It is a 15 minute drive from there. The parking fee is 520 yen per car.
