What is Kyushu National Museum?

The Kyushu National Museum is the 4th National Museum in Japan in opened in October 2005. The semi-cylindrical and ultra-modern building is 4 stories and is large enough to fit a soccer field. The concept of the museum is to study "The formation of Japan's culture through the historical viewpoint of Asia" and the exhibition halls are separated into two sections, the "Cultural Exchange Exhibition Room" and "Special Exhibition Room". In the entrance of the museum is a café and museum hall lobby. There are a variety of culture events such as theater performances that are held in the museum hall.

World's Best Video Viewing and Diverse Cultural Experiences

The "Cultural Exchange Exhibition Room" is 3900 square meters and exhibits 800 to 900 items. To study the history of cultural exchange with foreign countries, there is a Soshokukofun Virtual Theater modeled after an ancient tomb, as well as a Super High-Vision "Super HDTV" Theater, which boasts a screen 16 times the visual quality of the current high-vision screen on the market. The exhibitions are changed on a regular basis, 7 to 8 times a year. In addition, there are occasional small exhibitions called "Topic Exhibitions". In the "Special Exhibition Room" the exhibitions are changed 4 to 5 times a year. There is also a room within this area called Ajippa with hands-on experiences of culture and history in a setting much like a market in Asia. This is a popular attraction for visitors with children.

Entry fee for the "Cultural Exchange Exhibition Room is 430 yen per person, the "Special Exhibition Room" is an additional charge.
