Ureshino onsen, famous hot spring of Kyushu
Ureshino Onsen is located in Saga Prefecture. Along with Hinokami Onsen in Shimane Prefecture and Kitsuregawa Onsen, Tochigi Prefecture, it is considered one of top hot springs for beautiful skin. The hot spring has a long history; it was first mentioned in 713 in "Hizen Province Fudoki". Today, it is a large hot spring complex with numerous spas and ryokan. There is also a foot bath, free of charge. The spring waters are rich in sodium bicarbonate and sodium chloride and are devoid of any color. They remove sebum and secretions, making the skin smooth. The water in some springs is potable and is said to have a good effect on liver and pancreas.
You can enter hot springs in most ryokans. Entrance fee varies; the cheapest one is 350 yen. There is also an onsen pass available; many hot springs offer a discount if you have that one. The pass costs 1500 yen and includes 12 tickets; depending on the facility you will have to use 3-6 tickets. There is also a shared bath called "Seabolt no yu".
Enjoy the specialty of Ureshino Onsen.
If you come to Ureshino Onsen, you should definitely try tofu made, using water from the hot spring (onsen yudofu). The broth turns the color of tofu, and becomes thick with molten tofu. You can try tofu made in a milky onsen water only here. Ureshino Tea is another local specialty. It is also said to have a revitalizing effect on skin, preventing stains and moisturizing skin. It will have a double effect it if you drink it after hot spring.
