About Murakami Suigun Museum
The Murakami Suigun Museum is a museum dedicated to exhibiting items related to the eponymous "Murakami Suigun", which was a naval organization that seized control of military affairs, politics, sea travel and trade in the Seto Inland Sea during the Warring States Period (1467~1590). (Note: the word "suigun" means "navy", but in this case they were essentially pirates that seized control of the Seto Inland Sea)
The museum hosts fixed exhibits and seasonal exhibits and even has an exciting hands-on room. You can learn about the history and activities of the Murasaki Suigun via artifacts that were unearthed via archeological excavation. They also have video materials and dolls that make it easy for kids to understand as well. Within the hands-on room (the "Wakuwaku Taiken Room") you can don a helmet and armor. They have hands-on experiences for both kids and adults so you can enjoy the atmosphere of the old days.
From the third floor observation deck you can see Nojima and the ruins of Nojima Castle which was built in 1419 as the stronghold of the Murasaki Suigun. You can also enjoy the scenery of the Seto Inland Sea.
