Ishinomori Manga Museum

This museum is in cartoonist Shotaro Ishinomori’s hometown in Ishinomaki, Miyagi Prefecture. It is an origin point for manga culture that is known throughout the world, and is also a place for cultural exchange by making the very best of manga in order to create the city within the museum. Here you can touch a full-size replica of Mr. Ishinomori’s hands, alongside a number of other permanent exhibits. There are landscapes and characters from a variety of manga, and you can see a variety of cartoonists such as Shotaro Ishinomori, Osamu Tezuka, and Fujiko Fujio as well. Various events are held and comic lovers from all over the world can interact together here.

Business hours are from 9:00~18:00 and ticket sales close at 17:30. From March to November, the third Tuesday of each month is a holiday, and then from December until February every Tuesday it is closed. (The next day following a Tuesday in case of a public holiday.) During Golden Week, summer vacation, and the New Year period, it is open 7 days a week.


By train, use the Tohoku Shinkansen and get off at Sendai Station (仙台駅) then take the Senseki line, or from Furukawa Station (古川駅) take the Ishinomaki Line and get off at Ishinomaki Station (石巻駅) By car use the Tohoku Expressway and get off at the Yamato IC (大和IC) or use the Sanriku Motorway and get off on the Ishinomaki-kanan IC. (石巻河南).

From the Ishinomaki Station you can enjoy the Manga Road to the museum where you can see a variety of characters along the way.
