The Kanezaki Sasakama Hall is a place in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture that acts as a place for visitors to come and try Kanezaki kamaboko (a type of fish paste). There is a shop attached to the factory where you can try cooked goods made with kamaboko fish paste, and there are decorations that originally adorned the city’s shopping arcade only in August that are on permanent display.
You can eat piping hot fish cakes that are a bit different from the usual, and it’s a great place to stop if you’re tired after a journey. There’s also a factory tour that runs once per day at 10:30 for about 25 minutes, and the tour guide describes things through the glass at the factory. Up to 20 people can reserve. There is a broad variety of items available for sale, with packaged goods and canned goods, including small package goods that are good as souvenirs. There is a courier service as well, and because the goods keep well for a long time, it’s a great stop to just pop by for a little bit to visit.
Using public transit, take the JR Sendai West Exit Bus Terminal Platform 4 to bus line 300 or 301, to the Oroshimachi Higashigo-kita stop (卸町東5丁目北) and it’s immediately on the left (20min travel time)
To get there by car take National Highway Route 4 to Oroshimachi (卸町) intersection (Sendai Bypass will be in front of you, southeast corner of the Sendai City Central Wholesale Market), turn right and then go straight onwards. It will be on the left about 1.8km away from you.
