About Yonezawa City Uesugi Museum

This museum is a municipal museum that centers on the culture and history of the old Yonezawa. In September of 2001 it was opened as the Denkokunomori museum alongside the prefectural Okitama Bunka Hall. Various national treasures and items of the Uesugi samurai clan are exhibited such as the Kamisugimoto Rakuchu Kyoto folding screen and the Uesugi Kemonja. There have also been exhibits about the Edo period, the Date clan, and the city’s ancient samurai tomb. There is an Exhibition Room in which the history of Okitama and culture/history of Uesugi are on display, as well as writings and works related to local writers. The museum is just a 3 minute walk from Uesugi Shrine

Please be aware that closed/open days vary based on season. From April to November every 4th Wednesday in the month it is closed, and from December to March every Monday it is closed (in case of a holiday on Monday, Tuesday.) It is also closed on New Year’s and it is recommended you check in advance.
