Shirabu Onsen

Shirabu Onsen was established in 1312 in Yonezawa, Yamagata Prefecture. It is located at the height of 800-900m and is referred to as "Shirabu Takayu Onsen". "Takayu" means "hot spring in high place". Shirabu Onsen along with Takayu Onsen in Fukushima Prefecture and Zao onsen in Yamagata Prefecture are referred as "Three Highest Hot springs of Japan".

The surroundings are rich in nature: you can see monkeys and antelopes, if you walk through onsen quarter along Otarugawa River you will see a 50 m waterfall. If you go the other way you can visit a hidden spring called "Shintaka-yu Onsen".
